Yahoo wants to buy Tumblr: How much your tumblr worth on this acquisition?.
As may you know according to the press Yahoo is offering $1.1 Billions to Tumblr.
For Yahoo maybe is the a great opportunity to boost the company and bring back the good days, or maybe not if you realize that all the community isn’t so happy with this news and any wrong move or change could lead to lose a lot of users.
For Tumblr, it can be a extremely wrong decission, first of all with the price. May you thinking a Billion dollar its a mad amount of money and you can do billion things with it, especially if Yahoo is offering pure cash.
But let’s put the things on perspective:
Think on Instagram wich was one of the popular acquisition in the social media. In April of 2012 Facebook bought Instagram for 1 Billion dollars. In the same date Instagram said it had over 30 Million active users. Maybe it was an expensive acquisition for Facebook. But hey it was a popular social network app it was growing fast. Thats mean that every Instagram account was worth $33.33 for Facebook.
Tumblr at the time I write this has 108.4 Millions of blogs, if Karp sells Tumblr to Yahoo that means that your blog worth $9.25, yeah your blog that makes thousands of pageviews and have hundreds or thousands of followers worth less than ten dollars on this acquisition. This are cold numbers of course, without having in account other values like the millions of visits that WE (me, you and every blog on tumblr) produce.
Maybe is a little unrespectful to think that we worth less than $10 for tumblr, also for Tumblr maybe will be a bad decission, maybe the idea that Tumblr it could be bigger than Facebook hunts to David Karp everyday of his life, or maybe he just don’t give a F.**
